See Before Your Admission

What to bring

  • Correspondence from your doctor(s)
  • Past medical history from your GP
  • List of your current medications and dosage information
  • Medication for the treatment of diabetes
  • X-rays and test results relevant to your procedure
  • Health fund details and payment for any outstanding fees due on admission
  • Medicare Card, Pension Card or other concession cards such as Veterans’ Affairs Entitlement Card Health fund details. (Please confirm your private health insurance status with your health fund)

Medications

You are requested to bring all current medications with you in their original packaging. These will be locked in your bedside cabinet and made available for use during your stay with us. For your safety, please inform nursing staff about any medication you are currently taking. This includes any herbal medications.

Valuables

We strongly recommend that you do not bring any valuables to hospital. We do not accept responsibility for patient’s valuables.

Smoke-free environment

The whole North Shore Private and Royal North Shore campus, including buildings and grounds is smoke-free.

Private Rooms

All rooms at North Shore Private are private rooms.

Entertainment

Your room’s in-house entertainment includes Foxtel, free-to-air television and FM radio.

WiFi

Wifi is available throughout the hospital. See any of our reception desks for login details

Meal Service

A Diet Aide will visit you daily to take your order for meals the following day. The majority of meals have been created to meet the specific needs of patients in a healthcare environment, and are therefore lower in fat and salt content.

If you have special dietary needs, you can discuss these with the Diet Aides, who can be contacted on 8425 3164.

Visitors may dine with you at meal time by ordering a meal from the Front Reception Desk. There is a cost for visitor meals. Orders for lunch must be made before 10.30am, and dinner before 3.30pm.

Mobile Phones

When you are admitted please ask our staff if mobiles can be used in your room. Mobiles may be used in all public areas including the coffee shop. North Shore Private Hospital does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to your mobile phone.

Physiotherapy & massage therapy

Ramsay Professional Services, located on Level 4, provides physiotherapy and massage therapy to patients. Massages are available in your room.

Social worker

North Shore Private Hospital provides holistic health care embracing your physical and emotional health needs. Our social worker can assist you with your discharge from hospital and offer practical and emotional support for you and your family. This service is complimentary and strictly confidential. Interpreter services

The Translating and Interpreter Service (TIS) is available 24 hours a day and provides an interpreting service for doctors and specialists. If you would like an interpreter at any stage of your hospitalisation, please speak with your doctor or nurse. Charges may apply for this service.

The discharge time is 9:30am. Please arrange your transport home by 9:30am.

Important information on discharge day

Before you leave hospital, please make sure you have the following:

  • a discharge letter
  • all personal belongings
  • all current medications
  • made any necessary follow-up appointments
  • all x-rays and scans
  • completed the Customer Comment Card

On your way out, please see ground floor reception.

Discharge planning services

We have a team of staff to help you plan your discharge. The Discharge Coordinator can assist you plan for your discharge and, if required, rehabilitation at another facility. Ramsay Health Care has three hospitals close to NSPH that provide rehabilitation care after your surgery.

Transport arrangements

If you are going to a rehabilitation facility, the ward will provide you with a Discharge Information Card. The card lists the name of your rehabilitation facility and your transfer date plus contact details of the Discharge Coordinator and Nursing Unit Manager.

Post-discharge care

If you have any concerns about your progress when you return home, please contact your GP or referring specialist.

After hours, please contact your nearest hospital emergency department.

ATM

ATM is available on the Ground Level in Hudson’s Café and also at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Pharmacy

The Pharmacy is located on the ground floor. In addition to pharmaceuticals, you’ll find many personal items and small gifts, magazines and chocolates. The Pharmacy operates between 9:00am and 5:30pm weekdays.

Hudsons Coffee Shop

Hudsons is located on the ground floor next to the hospital reception.

Hudsons supply a selection of fresh sandwiches, pastries, quiches and salads as well as coffee and drinks. Please let the staff know if you have any special dietary requirements and they will be happy to advise food choices.

Taxi service

A free call taxi phone is located on the ground floor opposite the pharmacy.
