North Shore Private Opens new North Wing

The new north wing of North Shore Private Hospital is now open for patients with the official opening ceremony scheduled for late October 2010.

The multimillion dollar expansion of the hospital includes 57 private ensuited rooms, additional state-of-the-art theatres and two new birthing suites.  The hospital is now a 247 bed private hospital collocated on the campus of the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.

Construction on the development started in May 2009 after the completion of additional carparking to cater for the expansion.

North Shore is celebrating 12 years of operation this year. When it was opened in 1998, North Shore Private was considered one of Australia's finest private hospitals and it has maintained a strong reputation in the community in the provision of maternity and general surgical and medical services. It has a developed a high profile in neurosurgery, cardiac care, orthopaedics, urology and vascular services,

North Shore Private Chief Executive Officer Greg Brown said: "Since opening the hospital has achieved some major milestones including over 22,000 births and 170,000 operations."

In recent years, the hospital has also introduced and become a leader in areas such as bariatric (weight loss) surgery and Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's disease."

"The new development will assist the hospital to meet the growing demand for private hospital services in Sydney's north shore.
