Dr Hugh Porter is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who aims to provide premium care to women of Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches. Dr Porter is a skilled doctor who is described as being approachable, supportive and relaxed. Dr Porter is passionate about his vocation and works hard to ensure his patients achieve their pregnancy goals.
Medical qualifications: Dr Porter graduated medical school at the University of Notre Dame Sydney. He was awarded Magna Cum Laude, received the university’s “communication and clinical skills” prize and the Vice Chancellor’s “academic excellence” award.
Obstetric training: Dr Porter worked for three years at Royal North Shore Hospital before completing his specialist obstetric training at Westmead Hospital. He completed his gynaecology fellowship at the St Vincent’s Hospital and the Northern Beaches Hospital.
Teaching: Dr Porter regularly lectures medical students from the University of Norte Dame and Macquarie University. He currently holds academic positions with both universities. In 2022 Dr Porter was awarded the Northern Beaches Hospital Obstetrics and Gynaecology “Excellence in teaching” award.
Research: Dr Porter has a keen interest in research. His most recent paper was published in 2022 in the international journal “Prenatal Diagnosis” on the topic of EXIT procedures in obstetric care.
Personal interests: Dr Porter has a keen interest in outdoor activities such as cycling, running, canyoning, climbing, scuba diving and back-country skiing. Dr Porter is a proud father to two beautiful children. His wife Isobel works as a medical oncologist.
Interesting fact: Dr Porter has a degree in physics, taught skiing in North America for several seasons and once worked as a flying trapeze artist!
