Dr Levi Bassin, cardiothoracic surgeon at North Shore Private Hospital is using a new minimally invasive technique to treat cardiac patients at the hospital. The new technique (“mini mitral valve”) is a new development in the approach for mitral valve surgery, and is less invasive when compared to traditional open heart surgery.

World Parkinson's Day Fundraiser at North Shore Private Hospital

April 11 is World Parkinson’s Day and North Shore Private Hospital held a fundraiser to support the Shake it Up Australia Foundation and the work they do for Parkinson’s research. Sydney DBS organised a cupcake stall to raise funds and were well supported from visiting patients, families and staff from NSPH. Clinical Nurse Educator Morena Hill and Nurse Unit Manager from the Neurosurgical Ward Karen Morrison manned the stall and provided helpful information on Parkinson’s disease for those who stopped by to donate.

Research Update - Respiratory Infections Can Trigger a Heart Attack

New research from the co-located Ramsay North Shore Private/Royal North Shore Hospital Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory in Sydney finds the risk of a heart attack is increased 17-fold in the week following a respiratory infection such as influenza or pneumonia.
