Michael Ward began Cardiology at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, United Kingdom, before undergoing further training at Royal North Shore and Prince Henry Hospitals in Sydney. He then undertook a PhD on restenosis after angioplasty and stenting at the Baker Institute in Melbourne before travelling to Stanford University in California where he undertook post-doctoral studies whilst working as Interventional Fellow. After returning to the Royal North Shore Hospital he has maintained a mix of coronary intervention, clinical research and basic research into the fundamental mechanisms of arterial remodelling in de novo atherosclerosis and restenosis. His clinical research interests include mechanisms of late stent thrombosis, tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy and optimising outcomes in high-risk coronary intervention. Rooms appointments can be made through Northern Specialist Centre in North Shore Private Hospital.
