Dr Curtis has been a consultant at North Shore Private Hospital since 2007 and has dual training in conventional neurosurgery and newer minimally invasive techniques, enabling him to consider a broader spectrum of treatment options for vascular and spinal conditions. Dr Curtis consults regularly in Sydney and in Gosford and is also a VMO at Gosford Private Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.
Dr Curtis graduated from the University of Sydney in 1996 and completed his advanced neurosurgical training at Royal North Shore Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, Westmead Paediatric Hospital and the John Hunter Hospital.  After obtaining his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Neurosurgery) in 2004, he continued with an advanced 2.5 year international fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute and Swedish Science Foundation in Seattle, USA, where he was mentored by internationally renowned neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists, Dr Marc Mayberg, Dr David Newell and Dr Joseph Eskridge. During this time, Dr Curtis subspecialised in a full range of adult neurosurgical conditions, with special focus on open vascular and endovascular techniques in the management of aneurysms and AVMs, carotid surgery, minimally invasive spine and instrumented spinal fusion techniques, complex skull base work for tumours and aneurysms and the management of CSF circulation disorders.
Dr Curtis is delighted to be servicing Northern Sydney and the Central Coast as a Consultant Neurosurgeon, having grown up on the Central Coast and having spent the majority of his training around the northern Sydney and Hunter regions. In addition to his local patients, he is also privileged to service a number of out-of-town and international patients. The highest emphasis for Dr Curtis is in always trying to achieve the best possible outcome for the individual patient, through risk minimisation and a well thought out management strategy. It is his hope that his practice be known for personalised service, excellence and innovation.
